Dhauladhar Round Trek is a trek that takes you around the Dhauladhar range of the Himalayas, which is located in Himachal Pradesh, India. The trek offers you the opportunity to see the diverse flora and fauna, the remote villages, and the sacred lakes of the Dhauladhar mountains. The trek also crosses some high passes, such as the Indrahar Pass and the Milkiyani Pass, which offer spectacular views of the snow-capped peaks and the valleys.
The trek is about 35 km long and takes about 7 to 8 days to complete. The trek starts from Dharamkot, a village near Mcleodganj, and passes through Triund, Laka Got, Lahesh Cave, Indrahar Pass, Chata Parao, Kuarsi, and Bharmour. The trek can be done from March to December, but the best time is from June to October, when the weather is favorable and clear. The trek requires good physical fitness and stamina, as well as proper acclimatization and guidance.

On the way we visit several tribal villages. The trek offers added attraction for the bird watchers. Beautiful alpine meadows carpeted with flowers and medicinal plants, pasturelands, flocks of goats, sheep and wild birds and superb views from the passes make this a most wonderful route through a landscape dotted with many villages where we pause to meet the villagers and relax.

Dhauladhar Trek Itinerary

Day 1
MCLEOD GANJ TO KARERI VILLAGE (Height 2200m Distance 13Km)
The trek is goes through the pine forests and crosses several tribal villages on the way. Kareri is a Gaddi tribal village.
Night stay in one of the village houses or in tents.
Day 2
KARERI VILLAGE TO KARERI LAKE (Height 3500m Distance 14 Km)
Trail goes through mixed forests of oak, rhododendron and pine. First 2 Km is a level walk and then there is sleep ascent along Kareri Nullah Stream which has to be crossed over a number of times over improvised wooden bridges.
Night stay in tents at bank of Kareri Lake.
Day 3
KARERI LAKE TO BAGGA (Height 2500m Distance 10Km)
After a short ascent from the lake, is a steep descent through the forest to Bagga.
Over night stay in tents.
Day 4
BAGGA TO RAWA VILLAGE (Height 2100m Distance 10 km)
The trail goes downhill through the forest. Rawa village is situated on the bank of Small River.
Over night stay at Rawa village.
Day 5
RAWA VILLAGE TO GUNA DEVI (Height 2600m distance 10km)
It is a steep ascent through the forest to Guna Devi Temple, situated in the middle of the forest. This area is bird watchers paradise
Night stay in temple complex or Ball village 2 km after Guna Devi temple.
Day 6
GUNA DEVI TO TRIUND (Height 2875m Distance 13Km)
After 2 km level walk there is a steep ascent to Triund a flat meadow on the top of the ridge. From Triund panoramic view of the peaks of Dhauladhar on one side and the Kangra valley on the other is awe-inspiring.
Over night stay in tents or Private houses.
Day 7
TRIUND TO LAHESH CAVE (Height 3500m Distance 6 km)
After a short ascent from Triund traverse a ridge to reach Laka Got a temporary shepherd camp. Laka Got is situated at the snout of small glacier, which is full of snow and ice in early summer, and the snow melts away during the monsoon. From Laka Got there is a steep ascent for two km. over rocky ridge to reach Lahesh Cave
Over night stay in the cave or camp at Laka Got.
Day 8
LAKA GOT TO MCLEOD GANJ (Distance 12 Km)
Follow the same route on the way back or a different one from Triund going over a grassy meadow and descend down to Bhagsunag and then to Mcleodganj.

How to Reach Dhauladhar Round Trek

To reach Dhauladhar round trek, you will need to first reach Dharamsala, which is the nearest town to the trekking base. Dharamsala is well connected by road, rail, and air from major cities in India. You can take an overnight Volvo bus, a train to Pathankot, or a flight to Gaggal Airport. From Dharamsala, you can either take a cab or trek to Gallu Temple, which is the starting point of the trek. The trek is about 7 km from Gallu Temple and can take 3 to 7 hours depending on your fitness level. Along the way, you will pass through scenic villages, forests, and meadows. You can also opt for a different route through Bhagsu Nag falls and Shiva Cafe. The trek is challenging and adventurous, so make sure you have the necessary permits, equipment, and guides before you embark on it.
